Jewish History Online & KEW@T
Jewish History Online
Presentation: 15.7.2021, 6 pm c.t.
Speakers: Miriam Rürup and Daniel Burckhardt (Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies)
A new digitization strategy is currently being developed at the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam. In addition to revising the existing institute pages, the focus is on a new online portal on European-Jewish history. Under this digital umbrella, both existing and newly emerging offerings are to be bundled across the institute. A common platform is to be created, for example, which will make it possible to search various editions on Jewish history and to link metadata from finding aids and museum databases. The existing contents are to be linked via the systematic use of standard data and a jointly used thesaurus.
The portal is being created in close cooperation with the Institute for the History of the German Jews, whose edition of the Hamburg Key Documents on German-Jewish History, developed by the two lecturers together with Anna Menny, will form a central module of the new offering. Within the framework of the network »Jüdische Geschichte digital« (Jewish History Digital), there will be a close exchange with other actors in the field. This interlinking with the humanities networks currently being established within the National Research Data Infrastructure is intended to ensure the long-term nature of the content and offerings.
In the lecture, the special features of the Digital Humanities, especially for the field of Jewish history, will be discussed as well as the technical challenges and, above all, the opportunities of Digital Humanities tools for this field.
KEW@T. Digital Cultural Heritage as an Economic Factor in Cultural Tourism
Speakers: Ulf Preuss and Melanie Seltmann (University of Applied Sciences Potsdam)
KWE@T is a project of applied research aiming to link digital content from the field of cultural heritage and cultural tourism in the state of Brandenburg. The cooperation project between the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and »Tourismus Marketing Brandenburg GmbH (TMB)« is funded by the »Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE)« and the state of Brandenburg.
The KEW@T research project, is all about expanding the digital content from the field of cultural heritage to be used in cultural tourism. The focus in the research project is on the conception and prototypical development of a state-wide, technical and organizational infrastructure for linking cultural tourism offers in the Tourism Data Hub Brandenburg with digital content from cultural heritage institutions. These are now made available in web portals such as the »Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek« or Museum-digital. This approach is intended to improve the attractiveness of cultural tourism offerings and thus strengthen the tourism cluster as a whole.
