Bequests & Estates

The Theodor-Fontane-Archiv preserves and makes accessible the personal papers and estates of Fontane’s acquaintances as well as those of important Fontane researchers. On this page we present some of these holdings.

Estates from Fontane’s acquaintances

Partial Estate Dober

Paul Dobert (1860 - 1931) was, among other things, editor of the magazine Nord und Süd, later editor-in-chief of Die Woche. He was significantly involved in the early work on Theodor Fontane’s estate. In the archive we preserve a partial estate with letters, notes, and printed matter, which can, for example, provide information about the early history of the Fontane estate.

Partial Estate Kummer

The partial estate of Bertha and especially Karl Wilhelm Kummer, the adoptive parents of Emilie Fontane, includes handwritten and printed materials - letters, drawings, official documents, expert opinions, photographs, and objects - from the 1820s to the 1870s. It is of particular interest with regard to the activities of the inventor, cartographer, botanist and artist Karl Wilhelm Kummers.

Bequests and Estates of Fontane Researchers

Partial Estate Paul Conrad

With the »Sammlung Conrad« (Conrad Collection), the archive perserves an important bibliophile collection of the Fontane researcher Paul Conrad (1906-1985), including several first editions of the works of Theodor Fontane.
