Researching in the Archive

The library of the Theodor Fontane Archive is a reference library that is available not only to academics and students, but also to interested members of the public. In our reading room you can use an extensive reference library with encyclopedias and reference works, you can search our catalogs and view the holdings of our collections. You can access our digitized manuscript holdings here and at the carrels set up for this purpose.

Using our Holdings

Our user regulations [DE] provide information on the details of use. You can order individual books, archive materials or journals using the order form [DE], which you should ideally send to us in preparation for your visit or fill out on site. Please complete the appropriate form to order reproductions [DE]. Please send us the form for publication permission [DE] if you are planning to publish from our holdings. It is also possible to borrow [DE] CDs and DVDs for private use.

Users are requested to register their visit in advance. If possible, please inform us in writing of your arrival, the expected duration of your stay and your exact wishes. You are welcome to use our contact form for this purpose.

The collections are generally available free of charge. Special services such as scans, copies, photos and their use are subject to a charge. Details can be found in our fee schedule.
